Housekeeping is hard Work

I am exhausted! My elder son wants to have friends over tonight for burgers and "hanging out". Of course that means a few parents will also be hanging out. That's all fine. But it means that the house has to be clean-----not just my usual "clean enough", but really clean.

I hit the floor at 6:00 this morning, (on a Saturday!) and started picking up , straightening up, and putting away. An hour later I came out of my bedroom. Stuart did the upstairs, Erin did her bathroom, and AJ helped from his wheelchair with the living room and a few little jobs he can reach, like wiping out the lower fridge shelves. And it took us all morning to get the floors cleaned, the trash out, the bathrooms in good shape and such. Why does it take so long? It did not seem that bad when we started!

Then there are the veggies to prepare, and the dips to make, and the drink fridge to stock.......and the last minute shopping trip to get the things I thought I had, but can't find now so I guess somebody ate them.

So I'm exhausted, and I still have to cook the burgers. At least I have a running start on the cleaning I'll have to do before Bible study on Thursdays. Maybe I'll even get some fall decorating done in the next week.

Dipping my toes in the web

A very interesting thing happened today. I started reading blogs. I had read one here or there that a friend or relative sent me a link to, but just to read several for the fun of it was a new thing. So my daughter decided I needed to venture into this new thing myself and got me all set up.

The first thing I had to do was the "About Me" section. Hmmm. How do I describe me? It is interesting what we learn about ourselves when we have to describe ourselves. My first thought was "homeschooling mom". Yes, that's true----for 19 years now. I guess the way you spend your time and and a lot of your money defines you to a great extent. But is that all I am? I used to have interests and a name other than Mama. I assume that one day I'll have those again, but in this season (which has been a very long season and has at least 6 more years to go) that's who I am first and foremost.

I am also a conservative with Libertarian leanings, a Baptist (with Methodist background), an Aggie, a student of history, a lover of fiction, a cook, a scrapbooker, a quilter (wanna be), a wife, a church volunteer, a handbell player, a football mom, and many other things.

I guess mostly this will be about the daily life of a homeschooling mom and church volunteer. I hope it will be funny, helpful, maybe even inspiring from time to time. I may share scriptures that speak to me, recipes, or whatever peaks my interest. I may go off on political opinions from time to time. I will probably list curriculum and "school" books and misc. for sale.

This will be a grand adventure for me. Perhaps a few folks will come along for the ride.
